Sleep Apnea & Snooring Surgery at Our Los Angeles Center

Sleep apnea is a serious sleep disorder that happens when a person unconsciously stops breathing while they are sleeping for a short interval of time. These abnormal breathing pauses – usually lasting 10 -30 seconds - can occur up to 400 times a night. Occasionally someone can become aware of sleep apnea because they wake up out of breath. Often times a person with sleep apnea will snort when they resume breathing. Since the body and brain do not get enough oxygen it may become deprived causing a host of troublesome symptoms. You may never know you have sleep apnea until you start to search for a reason why you are so tired during the day.

If you suspect you have a problem, the first thing you can do is ask your spouse or someone else to observe you sleep and watch to see if you hold your breath or appear to breath too fast or too slow. Chances are if you have sleep apnea the person you ask may have already noticed the irregular breathing or that you contort your face, hands, or mouth in an unusual manner while sleeping.
